What is Leadership?

  • An essential element in understanding the nature of leadership is that a leader works with thinking, feeling people. These people are afraid of failure, and suffer from anxiety, jealousy, illness and fatigue. Some are ambitious, some are not. Some are competent, others are dull. Some are cooperative and loyal, others insubordinate and superficial. In short, they carry within themselves a thousand and one differences.
  • To enable them to perform as a team and an individual, it is not enough for a leader to decide what should be done and issue the orders for carrying out their intentions. A leader must also create a spirit of confidence and openness that inspires ownership and performance in those under them.
  • Leadership enables sustainable organisational performance and change through engaging and inspiring individuals.
